Desmos Polar Graph Art Project: A Fun and Engaging Learning Experience for Students

As a math teacher, I'm always looking for innovative ways to make learning more engaging and fun for my students. That's why I decided to try out the Desmos polar graph art project with my Pre-Algebra class. The result was nothing short of amazing!

To get started, I used teacher pacing to restrict the screens to 1-5 during the project. This allowed me to keep a close eye on my students' progress and provide guidance when needed. I also created an Activity Builder to include instructions for the project and helpful tips for my students.

One of the best things about using Desmos is its ability to help manage all of your graphs in one place. With the Activity Builder, I was able to easily view and access each student's graph, making it simple to provide feedback and support. This also allowed me to create a single hub for all of their art projects, which made it easy to keep track of everyone's progress.

The students were absolutely thrilled with the project! They loved creating their own unique polar graphs and using Desmos' color palette to add some flair to their artwork. I even had students come to me outside of class to learn more about graphing certain functions and coloring in their art.

To motivate my students, I showed them examples from Staff Pics and Creative Art on Desmos. These inspiring examples gave them ideas and encouraged them to get creative with their own projects. As they worked on their graphs, I could see the excitement building as they experimented with different shapes and colors.

What's great about this project is that it can be adapted for students of all grade levels. For younger students, you could have them graph only lines or plot points in a Desmos table and connect them to create a simple picture. This would provide a more accessible entry point into the world of polar graphs.

Overall, the Desmos polar graph art project was a huge success with my Pre-Algebra class. It provided a fun and engaging learning experience that allowed students to develop their math skills while expressing their creativity.
